亲爱的走鹃,

Late yesterday, state health officials announced two confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19)在科罗拉多州. With that development and the likelihood of more cases to follow, I wanted to provide an update to the Metropolitan State University of 丹佛 community.

As I’ve said often in the past, my top priority is the health and safety of our students, 教职员工. 密歇根州立大学丹佛 and the Auraria Higher Education Center have been closely monitoring developments around the virus for the last two months.

We continue to work with AHEC leadership, the 奥瑞瑞亚的健康中心, and city and state emergency-preparedness personnel to provide our community with the latest information and guidance. We will share regular updates with students, 教职员工 through our standard communications channels: the Early Bird, 跑步者, 学生中心和社交媒体. 该大学的 冠状病毒网站 is the central repository for updates and additional resources for the campus community.

Based on the latest information we have, 密歇根州立大学丹佛 will continue to operate on a normal schedule. Health officials report that there is still a very low risk of exposure to the virus.

That said, 密歇根州立大学丹佛 is preparing for all possible scenarios. Chief Operating Officer Larry Sampler has convened a campus wide task force so we can be ready to enact a coordinated response as needed. The taskforce includes representatives from multiple University constituent groups, including: 紧急 Preparedness; 设施; the Administration Branch; Academic Affairs; Student Engagement and Wellness; and Strategy, Marketing and Communications, 等. The team also includes the 奥瑞瑞亚的健康中心 and AHEC.

I want to assure you that we are taking every step possible to respond to the coronavirus threat and to ensure the health and safety of our community. I encourage all our Roadrunners to help us in those efforts by remaining calm, but also by taking precautions to stay healthy.

The 奥瑞瑞亚的健康中心 recently 分享这些建议 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases such as coronavirus:

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • 生病时呆在家里.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze into a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • There is no need to wear a facemask unless you are experiencing signs and symptoms of being sick.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, 咳嗽或打喷嚏.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Additional information in English, Spanish and Chinese is also available on the 疾病预防控制中心 网站. Information specific to our state can be found on the Colorado Department of Health and Environment 网站.

Please stay tuned for updates as we continue to monitor the latest developments with coronavirus. And thanks for your support in helping to keep our community united, healthy and safe.

真诚地,

珍妮·戴维森博士.D.
